Global CRESTA
Aggregated global zones for insurance risk assessment

Key Features

  • Country based zone and sub-zones
  • System developed by the world's leading reinsurers
  • Regular updates
  • Internet / Intranet ready

Description

The Global CRESTA (Catastrophe Risk Evaluating and Standardising Target Accumulations) zone data set helps brokers and reinsurers assess and present risk, based on the zoning system established by the world's leading reinsurers. Based primarily on the observed or expected seismic activity (although drought, flood and wind storms are also considered) within a country, CRESTA zones consider the distribution of insured values within a country as well as administrative or political boundaries for easier assessment of risks. CRESTA Zones are the essential basis for reinsurance negotiation and portfolio analysis.

CRESTA was originally developed as a joint project of Swiss Reinsurance Company (Zurich), Gerling-Konzern Globale Reinsurance Company (Cologne) and the Munich Reinsurance Company (Munich). Europa Technologies brings this standard into the digital mapping age with Global CRESTA. The product is ready-to-use for CRESTA zone look-ups by place name and risk visualisation applications. For MapInfo Professional users, we supply an easy-to-use application, CRESTA:view, for use by insurance analysts. With standard locating functions, a user can easily pinpoint what zone a risk falls within and then analyse/present the aggregate risk. Interrogation functions then provide the user with basic risk assessment information which can be further enhanced by adding a variety of national or international data sets such as earthquake locations, storm paths, meteorological, geological and insurance-specific statistical data.

The Global CRESTA database is also available via an easy-to-use web based service, CRESTA:net. Click here for further details.
