Description

Global Insight Lite is the new entry level data set in the Global Insight product line. Offering up-to-date political mapping and a place gazetteer, Global Insight Lite offers cost effective data for modest digital mapping requirements.

The product provides up-to-date political entities at 1:3,000,000 scale (including some first level administrative borders) and a gazetteer of over 20,000 named places. Names are spelled in local form with a supplement layer providing alternative spellings (English conventional name, second national language, long/short form plus |French, German, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Portuguese & Japanese). All place names (execpt Japanese which requires special support) use accented characters where required using a standard ANSI character set (e.g. Arial, Times Roman, etc.) or "Latin1" Unicode page..

Global Insight Lite is an excellent choice for users requiring medium resolution political mapping with the ability to perform city level place name searches. Like the larger gazetteer in Global Insight (>817,000 places), the alternative names layer allows searches to match many places with a conventional English name or spelt using a national second language. The Global Insight Lite gazetteer is derived from the most significant cities and towns from Global Insight. Place data records include country name and 1st level administrative region (where available) which assists when identifying an ambiguous name.

Global Insight Lite is a soft product. With no paper documentation or packaging, everything is downloaded from a protected area of the Europa web site. User documentation is supplied in Adobe Acrobat format which can be printed using the Acrobat Reader software - free to download from the Adobe web site. The user manual is also fully reproduced as on-line help. At a modest charge, the product can be supplied on CD-ROM for users who prefer not to download the data via the web.

Global Insight Lite is the first product in its class to offerfree quarterly updates for one year.

Global Insight Lite may be deployed in an Internet / Intranet web environment or used in a central server based capacity for an annual fee of three times single user list price. If the use of the product includes service resale (ASP models, etc.), the annual fee is five times the single user list price. Prices include updates for one year. For Intranet or server based applications where the number of users is limited, the multi-user licence pricing above (one payment, perpetual licence) can be used.
