Through a project with US-based Dilieu Technology, Europa Technologies has become the first GIS specialist to seamlessly integrate new street level maps into Microsoft Virtual Earth. Part of a Jamaican Government backed project to electronically track probationers in Jamaica, Dilieu looked to mapping experts Europa Technologies to provide bespoke map rendering services and data preparation for the project.

Dilieu Technology, a provider of GPS-based tracking and monitoring systems, used map data specialist Europa Technologies to render replacement map tiles compatible with Microsoft Virtual Earth. Commissioned by the Department of Correctional Services in Jamaica the project's aim was to electronically track certain probationers though wireless technology and geographical mapping, to pin point their exact location and ensure compliance with the terms of their release.

Using digital street maps sourced from Jamaica, Europa Technologies was able to render map tiles for seamless integration with Dilieu's chosen web platform, Microsoft Virtual Earth. "When Dilieu discovered that Microsoft Virtual Earth did not have sufficient detail for Jamaica, they turned to us for help", said Warren Vick, founder and director of Europa Technologies. "I believe we are the first GIS company to do such a tight integration of custom maps with Microsoft Virtual Earth with maps rendered in a consistent and seamless style".

Europa Technologies will now offer custom map rendering for Google Maps, Microsoft Virtual Earth and Open Layers as part of its core services.
