Europa Technologies, a world leader in digital mapping have won an award at the prestigious Toast of Surrey Business Awards 2009. Against stiff competition, the company won the award for the best Surrey-based company with a turnover up to £1m, the category being sponsored by the Surrey Research Park.

Nearly 200 guests packed into the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Guildford on for the inaugural awards, organised by the Surrey Advertiser and 96.4 Eagle. The awards celebrate the success of businesses and recognise their contribution to the economy, community and prosperity of Surrey. Master of Ceremonies for the night was Eagle's breakfast show host Peter Gordon.

When receiving the award, less than 24 hours after the Oscars, company founder Warren Vick joked, "I was certain that Slumdog Millionaire would win this one". Speaking after the ceremony, he said, "It was wonderful and a fantastic surprise. There were three other excellent companies in our category and you think it will probably be someone else. My team and I are absolutely thrilled".
