Proxima:pro is a powerful extension for MapInfo Professional (v4.5 and higher). It allows a range of proximity analysis functions including “Where’s the nearest...?” and operates in an interactive or batch mode. The application features a high performance geocoder with a fully maintained database of all UK postcodes.

Proxima:pro allows the user to define a target locations table - typically a layer containing point records and then specify up to 15 fields of interest for that table. Using a menu or easy-access toolbox, users can perform where’s the nearest...? searches by entering a UK postcode / place name, performing a look-up against another user-specified table, or simply clicking on a map. The nearest target locations are then displayed. The interactive use of Proxima:pro is a powerful feature for any MapInfo Pro user who needs to perform an instant geographic look-up against a reference table.

Proxima:pro also operates in batch mode by allowing the user to specify origin and destination tables. Through a simple wizard-guided process, the user can specify how many destinations to find for each origin location. Fields can then be selected, from the origin and destination tables, to copy through to the specified output. Additionally, special fields representing the distance (miles and kms), rank, and Inverse Distance Weighting (IDW) factor can be chosen allowing site strength and influence to be modeled. An option to create satellite maps illustrating all calculated origin to destination connections is also provided.

The screen-shot above illustrates search results from the interactive mode of Proxima:pro. In this example, the application displays the nearest five petrol stations to the UK postcode KT10 0BQ.

Proxima:pro is available in UK and International editions. Only the UK edition includes a built-in geocoder and the ability to search by postcode. The International edition relies on searches from user-specified data tables.
